The Illinois Society for Clinical Social Work is guided in its activities by the Board membership. The Board meets once per month to discuss progress towards the Society’s goals, plan upcoming events, and plan and create new initiatives to benefit our members. The Board consists of the following positions:

Board Position Descriptions:

President:

Provides leadership in charting Society’s course, planning conferences, workshops and networking events. Organizes and leads board meetings which determine Society’s policies and actions. Provides oversight of Society’s budget and finances and recruitment of board members. Chair of Executive Committee. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Vice President:

Assists President in all aspects of leadership of the Society. Leads board meetings in President’s absence. Member of Executive Committee. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Treasurer:

Monitors Society’s finances by checking monthly bank statements. Pays invoices submitted by board members, members and vendors subject to President’s approval. Presents Treasurer’s report at Monthly Board Meetings. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Secretary:

Takes minutes at all Board meetings. Distributes minutes at next board meeting for review and approval. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Education:

Takes a leadership role in suggesting Educational focus of Society’s Conferences, Workshops and Networking Events. Chairs, Jane Roiter Sunday Morning Seminar Committee. Coordinates Sunday Morning Seminars. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Newsletter Editor:

Solicits and edits articles for Society’s Newsletter. Determines format and layout of each issue of the newsletter. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Membership:

Oversees all aspects of Society’s membership renewal and recruitment, including writing and arranging for distribution of an annual membership renewal letter. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Legislation and Policy:

Keeps Board and Membership informed of legislative and policy issues that impact Clinical Social Workers at local, state and national levels. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

New Professionals:

Oversees Society’s special programs and offerings for new professionals, including mentoring, support, supervision and low fee psychotherapy. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Standards of Practice:

Keeps Board and Membership informed of issues related to Clinical Social Workers maintaining the highest possible standards of competent and ethical practice. Focus includes issues related to social

work licensure, the NASW code of ethics, and empirical research on practice outcomes. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Public Relations and Marketing:

Provides leadership and focus for society’s efforts to publicize and promote its programs and activities. Oversees society’s Internet presence including web site, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Cultural Competence:

Provides leadership in raising Board Member, sensitivity and awareness of how racial, cultural, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation and disability issues impact clinical social work practice. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

At Large Position:

Actively participates in all board meetings and Society activities. Provides support and expertise in areas where the society needs additional assistance and resources. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.

Student Liaison:

Actively participates in all board meetings and Society activities as a representative of students in their MSW program. Regularly attends monthly board meetings and all society events.
